Motukiekie Beach

Located on the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island, Motukiekie Beach would have to be my favourite location on the South Island. This place has it all, steep cliffs, giant rock pillars, moody weather and thousands of bright orange starfish. Yet, hardly anyone knows about it apart from a few photographers.

A Seascape photographers delight but not without extremely dangerous and treacherous tidal conditions. It can only be accessed at low tide by a 5km hike past the cliffs and surrounded by sandflies. The tide rises at least 3 metres and is very strong!! So trying to get there on holiday, with only one day on location, that also had a low tide at sunrise and no rain is a big ask.
